MY STORY:
While touring nonstop with Buck-O-Nine throughout the 90’s, I'd check out nearby tattoo shops in whatever random city we were in, and if I had the cash... I'd get tattooed.
I left my Buck-O-Nine family in 1998, married my wife Liz, and began the search for a solid career to get my life going in a steady direction. While working a crappy day job in Pasadena, I began seeking a tattoo apprenticeship. In early 2000, a friend told me about a shop in Temecula, Ca. that was looking for an apprentice. Things worked out with the owner and I jumped in with both feet. I quit my day job and started working full-time at Body Graphics. Greg Griffin taught me the basics and after 2 months got the go-ahead to start tattooing any friend that trusted me. I was transferred to greg’s other shop in Bonsall, Ca and was under the watch of Ryan Bettini, and Matt Rogers. By this time, 5 months in, I’m tattooing full time.
At the 10 month mark, I heard through the grapevine that Juan Puente (who had done some of my first tattoos) was working at Classic Tattoo Parlor in Fullerton, Ca., just a few minutes away from where I lived in Anaheim, Ca. I went to visit Juan, but he was traveling overseas. I ended up meeting the owner Eric Maaske that day instead, and he offered me a job. Classic was full of hand painted flash, acetate stencils and tattoo collectibles from the Pike in Long Beach, not to mention the solid crew of tattooers working there. If I was going to step-up my tattooing, I just knew this was the place where I needed to be.
I started at Classic a month later working alongside Eric, Juan Puente, Frank Ball, Lucky Bastard and Ray Giambrone. For the next 2 years, I soaked up everything I could.... technique, theory, crazy stories, and amazing tattooing.
Liz and I then moved to Colorado Springs, Co.,I went on my first working tattoo trip to Tokyo, working at Scratch Addiction with Tokyo Hiro and Yushi . In November of 2003, Liz and I opened Premier Tattoo in downtown Colorado Springs, Co. That’s my story to date. Stay tuned for the future......
